— Our story

Chinese medicine was never only something you swallow. It was drunk, worn and carried. ŌU keeps both roads open.

Premium first

The highest grade of every herb goes into the tea.

Nothing wasted

What is left over is pressed into the beads you wear.

No mystique

We name the formula. Rock sugar comes in its own packet.

— Where it comes from · 道地药材

It starts in Bozhou.
Then we go wherever the herb is best.

One in four Chinese herbs passes through the Bozhou market, and that is where our buying begins. From there we go to the places each herb grows best.

Woodblock print of the herb market in Bozhou, Anhui — baskets of dried chrysanthemum, roots and jujube
01

Bozhou, Anhui

亳州 · 安徽

Chrysanthemum, peony root, tangerine peel

China's oldest herb town — a medicine market since the Han dynasty, and still the country's largest.

02

Zhongning, Ningxia

中宁 · 宁夏

Goji

Desert-edge fields on alkaline soil — the only goji graded 甲级 by origin.

03

Pingyin, Shandong

平阴 · 山东

Rose

Picked at dawn in a two-week window, when the oil in the petal is highest.

04

Xinhui, Guangdong

新会 · 广东

Tangerine peel 陈皮

Peel from mandarins grown in brackish delta soil, then aged for years, not months.

05

Ruoqiang, Xinjiang

若羌 · 新疆

Jujube 红枣

Long dry summers and cold nights give the jujube its natural sweetness.

06

Tongbai, Henan

桐柏 · 河南

Poria, jujube seed

Wild-harvested under pine, sorted by hand at the co-op we buy from.

The top grade of every herb goes into the tea; what remains becomes the beads.

How they are made · 药香珠制作

Ground, bound, and pressed by hand.

Medicine beads: real herbs and resins, ground and pressed one at a time. No fragrance oil, no plastic core. Body heat releases the formula slowly all day.

  1. 01研磨

    Grind

Herbs, woods and resins, stone-ground to powder. No fillers, no fragrance oil.

  2. 02和料

    Bind

Bound with pear juice, rose water or honey, then kneaded into a soft dough.

  3. 03压模

    Press

Pinched off and pressed in a hand mould, one bead at a time.

  4. 04阴干 · 穿绳

    Dry & string

Air-dried in the shade for weeks, polished, then strung by hand.

— How to brew · 冲泡方法

One pod, one bottle,
three minutes.

Built for a bottle rather than a teapot — make it once in the morning and carry it with you.

A food product, not a medical treatment. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA.

  1. Drop in one pod
    01

Drop in one pod · 取本品一袋

One pod per bottle. Whole herbs and fruit, nothing ground down.

  2. Add 150–300 mL hot water
    02

Add 150–300 mL hot water · 加入开水

Just off the boil. Less water for a deeper cup, more for an all-day sip.

  3. Wait 3–5 minutes
    03

    Wait 3–5 minutes · 静候三至五分钟

Then drink. Refill the same pod once or twice through the day.

"The body keeps its own seasons. Wisdom is learning to drink with them."

  • Pick by what the body is asking for: Cool Qi for heat and flare-ups, Golden Earth after heavy meals, Red Bloom for the days around your period, Moon Rest for the hour before bed, Jade Dew for skin. Most people keep two on the shelf and rotate.

  • One pouch into a bottle, 150–300 mL of hot water, three to five minutes. It is built for a bottle rather than a teapot, and it can be refilled once through the day.

  • Buying starts in Bozhou, Anhui — the herb town that has traded medicinal plants for nearly two thousand years — and from there we go to the places each herb grows best: goji from Ningxia, rose from Shandong, aged peel from Xinhui, jujube from Xinjiang.

  • They are medicine beads: whole herbs, woods and resins ground to powder, mixed and bound with pear juice or rose water, then pinched off and pressed one at a time in a small hand mould — no fragrance oil, no plastic core. Body heat releases the formula slowly, so the scent builds as you wear them.

  • The teas are food, not medication. Rock sugar is included in a separate packet so you can sweeten to taste, and there are no artificial sweeteners. If you are pregnant, nursing or taking blood thinners, check with your doctor first — Red Bloom in particular is not suitable during pregnancy.

  • It is our first release, and everything on the site belongs to it: 1,000 boxes of tea in total, and 100 pieces of each of the three bracelets. When they are gone, they are gone.

  • Everything on the site is pre-order at one fixed price — no discounts. Shipping is free over $65 and $6.90 otherwise, and you will get a note with a date before anything is charged for delivery.
